What are the different types of roof flashing?

Post by fomayof928@mowline »

There are many types of flashing, each designed for specific areas and functions within a roof system.

The following are the different types of roof flashing:

Step Flashing
Step flashing is used where a roof meets a vertical wall, example of norway phone number such as an exterior siding or dormer. These are long rectangular pieces of metal with a curved flange (lip or folded edge) that "step" up to the wall below the shingles to create a waterproof seal.

Valley Twinkle
Valley flashing is installed in the V-shaped valley where two sloped roof sections meet. It directs water into the valley and eaves, preventing it from pooling and potentially backing up underneath the shingles.

Counter flashes
Counter flashing is a two-part system used on chimneys. The base flashing wraps around the base of the chimney and extends beneath the shingles. The counter flashing is a separate piece that is installed on the chimney itself, with a flange that overlaps and "hooks" onto the base flashing. This creates a double layer of protection.
